Nintendo and Game Freak offered up a number of new details this morning with English and Japanese trailers for the new Pokémon. The three new starters were revealed, as well as the new legendaries and the release date: November 18. Outside of those details, however, a number of tiny reveals were included. If you blinked, you might have missed them, but not us.
For whatever reason, the new starters will be presented to you on a stage.
One of them seems less thrilled than the others to be up for grabs.
Here’s what the screen will look like when it comes to making the most important decision of your life.
You will be able to choose from a handful of skin tones, as well as hair, eye, and hat styles. It doesn’t appear (at least from this screen) that you can select those elements individually.
Rowlet is a grass and flying type Pokémon, and his name is dangerously close to the word toilet.
Litten is a fire type Pokémon, and his name kind of sounds like litter.
Popplio is a water type Pokémon, and his name only needs one extra vowel to be as equally toilet-themed as his brothers.
I’m not sure who this guy is but he seems happy to see you.
I think he is telling you that you are allowed to take your hat off, something the protagonists of the previous two games didn’t seem to realize.
The new location is called the Alola region and is heavily influenced by Hawaii.
Here’s what it looks like from a plane.
This appears to be your mom. She has a pet Meowth, even though she could probably go next door and get a much cooler cat made of fire.
Despite the tropical setting, there will be a city.
Here’s what it looks like up close. That guy in front of the yellow truck seems unreasonably suspicious of you.
Get ready to climb some hills.
You will also have to deal with the sun going down. Sun, Moon? Day, night cycle? It all makes sense.
